Become a Compassion Ministry Connector: Bringing Hope to Memphis
At Send Relief Memphis, in partnership with the Mid-South Baptist Association, we believe that meeting needs in Jesus’ name is at the very heart of the gospel. One of the most effective ways we do this is through Compassion Ministry Connectors—faithful church members who serve as a vital link between their congregation and the wider Memphis community.
What is a Compassion Ministry Connector?
A Compassion Ministry Connector is a church member who represents their church and local community as the central point of contact for compassion initiatives. More than a title, this role is a calling to embody Christ’s love in tangible ways.
Serving in Compassion Ministry
Connectors serve at the heart of the Good Samaritan Initiative, a program that connects church families with housing-insecure families in the Memphis-Shelby County School System. Supported by Send Relief Memphis, this initiative fosters life-on-life relationships between church families (Good Samaritans) and housing-insecure families (Neighbor Families). The goal is to cultivate lifelong friendships marked by care, encouragement, and the love of Christ.
Through this initiative, Compassion Ministry Connectors help ensure that both Good Samaritan families and Neighbor Families experience true belonging and support. Whether through direct interactions, personalized Christian care, or responding via the Send Relief Memphis hotline, Connectors extend compassion to some of our city’s most vulnerable neighbors.
This ministry is both spiritual and practical:
- Maintaining a Citywide Resource Database – Connectors help gather and share resources from their church and the broader community, ensuring the information is current and accessible through quarterly updates.
- Building Bridges of Care – They stand as the compassionate bridge between neighbors in need and the resources available, walking alongside individuals and families on their journey to stability and hope in Christ.
- Committing to Growth – Through regular meetings and ongoing training, Connectors continually sharpen their ability to serve effectively and faithfully.
Why It Matters in Memphis
Our city carries deep needs, particularly among housing-insecure families, mothers, and children. By stepping into this role, Compassion Ministry Connectors ensure that no one faces these struggles alone. They remind our community that the church is here not only to preach Christ but to live His compassion daily.
We are praying for more of our MSBA church members across Memphis to answer this call. By becoming a Compassion Ministry Connector, you won’t just be part of a program—you’ll be part of a movement of hope, bringing people together, meeting real needs, and pointing others to the love of Jesus.
If you or someone in your church feels called to serve in this way, we invite you to join us. You can make an immediate impact today by checking out our Housing-Insecure Care Package needs and other simple ways to support. Together, we can make an eternal difference in Memphis.
Sincerely,
Mary Abram
