But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
The impact and benevolent influence Kathryn Stanley Lawes had on so many people are highlighted by Pete Black who calls her “the angel of Sing Sing.” She was the wife of the warden Lewis Lawes. During his twenty-one years as warden of Sing Sing, Kathryn demonstrated the love of God to the prisoners and many reforms were instituted. When Kathryn died at age 52, prison inmates petitioned the warden to attend her funeral. Warden Lewis allowed them to attend. The prisoners made a short trip to the Lawes home to pay their respects. Because of their love for Kathryn, inmates from the maximum-security prison attended her funeral and returned to prison. May our love for Christ cause His fruit to be revealed in us.
If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!
